AYURVEDIC TREATMENT is based on the doshas (biological humors) affected and the type of fibroids. Ayurvedic herbal treatments, multimodalities of panchakarma, lifestyle, diet, daily routines, and mental wellbeing are individually tailored, and depending on the size of the fibroid. Smaller ones can be treated, but over 5 cm conventional medicine.

FIBROIDS (aka fibromyomas, leiomyomas or myomas) are common benign smooth muscle tumors of the uterus. Fibroids are among the most common disorders of the uterus for childbearing age women. Less than 0.1% of all uterine fibroids are malignant.  Modern medicine does not have a definitive treatment other than surgery. Uterine fibroids are a major reason for hysterectomy accounting for about 200,000 hysterectomies/year. Although, ¾ of women who have fibroids, don’t have symptoms.

In women who have symptoms, fibroids symptoms can present as:

  • Frequent urination
  • Difficulty emptying the bladder
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Backache or leg pains
  • Menstrual periods lasting more than a week
  • Pelvic pressure or pain
  • Constipation
  • Fertility challenges
  • Increased inflammation

70 % of white women and 84 % of African American women have fibroids. On average, African American women are younger at onset of fibroids, and have larger and more numerous tumors.

TO REDUCE THE RISK OF DEVELOPING FIBROIDS:

Avoid excessive sugar and sugary foods:  Too much sugar increases the risk of fibroids growth. Our blood sugar levels are raised when we consume refined sugar, which leads to an increase in insulin production. Too much sugar leads to weight gain and fibroids growth. Eat fresh fruits (not juiced) so the fibers can help the digestive system and slow down the release of sugar into bloodstream

Avoid eating foods that increase estrogen levels:  Foods like berries, sesame seeds, flaxseeds, soybeans, garlic, and cabbage increase estrogen levels in our bodies. This increases the risk of fibroids. It is better to consume fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber and water content for balance and weight loss.

Avoid drinking or smoking:  Consumption of alcohol or nicotine raises the risk of fibroids. If you’re experiencing symptoms or issues, you shouldn’t indulge because it could increase your hormone level and cause inflammation. A high intake of caffeine can also add to the risks. As healthier alternatives, choose herbal teas such as chamomile or green tea.

Avoid meat and high-calorie foods:  Meats are inflammatory. Excessive meats and fatty, processed foods can lead to obesity, thereby increasing the risk of fibroids. Best to eat a well-balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains and dark green leafy vegetables.
